WORKSHOPS

Working together is a big part of what we do at Submit to Love Studios, and workshops are a key example of this in practice. They are an opportunity to share and learn new skills, to explore different creative approaches and to collaborate with new people. With the studio, we not only welcome external artists to host workshops for us; we also run our own for private groups and the public.

Public Workshops

As part of our mission to showcase the work and talents of our artists, we often collaborate with galleries and institutions to run workshops for the public. These are developed with (and sometimes led by) our artists at the studio, and can be tailored for a range of different audience needs.

In recent years we have delivered workshops at Science Museum, Barbican Centre, Wellcome Collection and Southbank Centre.

Check out some examples of past workshops here.

Team Building & Groups

We have over ten years’ experience in facilitating mosaic sculpture, ceramics and mural workshops with our artists and visiting groups. These workshops make for fantastic, unique team-building days and those involved will have the opportunity to collaborate with our artists, benefitting from their guidance and inspiration. As well as gaining new technical and creative skills, participants will learn about life after brain injury and gain insight into how our artists come to express their remarkable talents in spite of profound disabilities.

Working with other Artists

Being situated in East London means we’re well placed in the creative community, and we’ve welcomed many creatives to host workshops in the studio for our artists. These visits can take the form of a short 2-hour printing session, or a 6-week ceramics class. Many visiting artists have also gone on to complete long-term projects with an individual or group of artists from Submit to Love. Some will even take up a residency with us over a few months.

“There is no ‘house style’ or pressure to conform at Submit to Love, the artists who attend are as idiosyncratic as the title of their studio. I hold workshops partly for selfish reasons, to steal ideas from people less familiar with sculpting than me, and I wasn’t disappointed! The originality on display here would put many art school workshops to shame.”
— Wilfrid Wood, visiting artist
