HOME studio

Between March and September 2020, our East London art studio was closed for the safety of our community. Our team therefore had to find new ways to engage with our artists remotely - step forward Submit to Love’s Home Studio programme! It’s been such a success, we’re continuing even after the doors to our beloved arch re-open.

Weekly online sessions

Each week, the studio team are connecting with more than 20 artists through remote sessions. The “Home Studio” Zoom sees up to 15 participants responding to a theme or an artwork together in a shared space. Visiting artists have also joined to talk about their work and help lead a session and in recent months we’ve welcomed Katie Scott, Stephen Wright and the Barbican Centre to the group.

In addition to this, the team also run one-to-one sessions for those with higher needs, and smaller group sessions where necessary.

Lockdown collaborations

In keeping with our commitment to collaborative practice, we’ve supported a number of our members to undertake and be part of some exciting group projects in recent months.

Four of our artists paired with four external artists (and studio friends) to create a line of fundraising t-shirts featuring brand new designs. Meanwhile, artist Sam Jevon was also supported by curator Lisa Slominski to create a free, downloadable colouring book.

Promoting our artists

As well as creating new work, we’ve also been exploring and supporting new ways to raise the profiles of our artists. From commissioning them to create video workshops (watch Billy’s offering with the Barbican Centre), to submitting for exhibitions (see Shape Arts and Jennifer Lauren Gallery). We’ve also been sharing work from a postponed physical exhibition at Autograph BP Gallery; showcasing embroidery pieces, photographs and talks by our artists - see more over on our blog.
