(30 November, London) More than 30 artists are today celebrating the launch of a brand new art exhibition which showcases the talents of local brain injury survivors supported by charity Headway East London.

Running from 30 November until 23 February at Stratford Circus Arts Centre, the work of ‘Submit to Love Studios’ asks visitors to consider “how far can one life-changing incident be seen in the artistic work you create?”.

The charity’s talented collective of self-taught artists each take different creative paths to produce works that are unguarded, emotive and informed by a truly unique vision.

This public exhibition - the studio’s first - celebrates the achievements of Headway East London’s members and the personal journeys undertaken since their injuries. Generously sponsored by Hyphen Law; the company’s Director Christine Bunting had the opportunity to visit the studio recently and was deeply impressed by the artwork. She says:

“We jumped at the opportunity to be involved in this event. The work created by these artists is not only hugely inspiring, but also a thrilling and thought-provoking exhibition of their collective talents.”

Survivors of brain injury are often excluded from society, have lost skills, occupations and are unable to communicate with the world as they used to.  Art offers an outlet to re-define how they communicate and unlock self-expression.

Over the past two decades, Headway East London has become home to many talented artists; repositioning art from a simple rehabilitation activity to both a vocation and passion project. The charity’s onsite art studio has evolved over time and in response to this change – sitting alongside the existing activities and services that Headway East London provides for brain injury survivors.

Headway East London (www.headwayeastlondon.org) is a charity supporting people affected by brain injury. Working across 13 London boroughs we offer specialist support and services for survivors and their family. We offer therapies, advocacy, family support and community support work alongside our day service: a community venue where people can make the most of their abilities and interests. Our vision is to build a community where people with brain injury are valued, respected and able to fulfil their potential.

Submit to Love Studios (http://submittolovestudios.org/) is home to a collective of self-taught artists. These artists have developed a set of unique practices and interests, refined over more than a decade. All of our artists have survived brain injuries - some use this to inform their work, whilst others take inspiration from the world around them. The studio is based at Headway East London in Hackney.
